The Times Spelling BEE-Message from Julia Styles & Maureen McGovern
by K Bishop - Monday, 15 March 2010, 02:23 PM

The Times Spelling BEE -First round heats took place on the afternoon of Tuesday 9th March 2010.

The great news is our fabulous team of Ella McKee (7V), Shannon Collins (7D), Emily Rumsey (7S) and Mihir Rao (7S), competing against 6 other schools, WON our play off heat, by 10 clear points - although we had to wait until the very end of the competition for the final result as we were the last team to spell in the Quick-fire Round. In support of the team, we were joined by Ella’s mum and Emily’s dad plus four friends of the team from our year 7 and Laura our Trainee English Teacher.

The Team are now through to the Semi-finals which will be held somewhere in the south of England in May 2010

The team performed with focus and determination and were brilliant. Special credit must also go to Ella McKee (7V) who was the last Speller Standing, from all of the teams, in the Spelling Play-Off Knock out round.
The team are already busy practising for the semi-final competition.

Special thanks to Andy Cooper for driving the team and supporters to the competition in the RLS minibus.

Election of Parent Governors
by K Bishop - Friday, 12 March 2010, 12:06 PM

Becoming a school Governor is a challenging and rewarding experience, however the commitment that it requires should not be underestimated. You will be required to attend one full Governing Body meeting a term, (held on first Monday of March, June and October and starting at 1.30pm. These meetings usually last a full afternoon. You will also join either the Curriculum (start time 5.30pm), Personnel (start time 5.30 pm) or Premises Committee (start time 4.30pm) and you will be expected to attend the relevant termly meeting. You are more than welcome to attend any of the other committee meetings if you so wish. Preparation for these meetings may require background reading. You may also be assigned as a link to an area of the school, which involves making visits to see it in action, and then report back to the Governing Body. Governors should also make time to observe and congratulate students on the time they put in to extra-curricular activities, such as Prize Giving, Music and Sporting events.
